Vitamin A

Vitamin A is a popular vitamin in cosmetics which belongs to a large class of compounds called retinoids.  Its precursor is called beta-carotene and is found in cosmetics as retinol, retinyl esters, retinoic acid, retinyl palmitate, acitretin and adapalene. Retinoids are used in a treatment of hyperkeratoses – the thickening of the outer layer of skin, and scars, as well as removal of acne caused by cornification disorders on the exits of the sebaceous glands. It is also has the ability to regulate skin cell growth and differentiation, and stimulates the collagen synthesis in the epithelial tissue, which provides the anti-aging effects. Besides, it makes the skin smooth and even toned due to exfoliating properties. Therefore, vitamin A is often called the “skin normalizer” or “rejuvenating agent”.
